OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide education and exposure to the traditional style of Hawaiian music, with emphasis on the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. We issue three newsletters a year, which contain steel guitar news, resources, and club information. We also host an annual festival in Winchester, Indiana, with live performances, seminars, and a luau show.

HISTORY OF THE STEEL GUITAR

The steel guitar was invented in 1885 by a young Hawaiian boy named Joseph Kekuku. There are variations of the story. However, most agree that Kekuku had a Spanish guitar resting on his lap, when he dropped a piece of metal on the surface of the strings. Immediately, he was captivated by the sound it produced and spent the remaining years of his life perfecting...

If you are interested in becoming part of the AISGC giving 'ohana (family), simply fill out the membership registration form, and make your dues payment via cash or check. We currently offer one-year memberships. Membership benefits include newsletters containing steel guitar and club information, priority playing time at AISGC festivals...

The AISGC has dedicated itself toward the promotion, perpetuation, and education of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. This has been evident in the club's newsletters, festivals, and members.
